Stepping Forward with Brain Gym®

Open To:
Participants must have attended “An Introduction to Brain Gym®” or “4 Day Brain Gym® course for Educators” with Brainwise™.

Course Format:
1 Full Day CPD Hours 5 Also available as Inset (1 day or 2 x 2 half days or 2 x 2hr twilights) for schools who have had a Brainwise™ Introductory Inset)

Prerequisites:
Participants must have attended “An Introduction to Brain Gym®” or “4 Day Brain Gym® course for Educators” with Brainwise™.

Course Aim:
This course builds on the comprehensive introduction to Brain Gym®. Participants have an opportunity to review and update their current experience of practise in Brain Gym® and engage in new movements and background.

Review

Discussion and review of movements and process covered in the introduction. An opportunity to check current understanding of the movements and key principles in light of classroom experience. An introduction to modelling Brain Gym® experience and practise.

Extension of understanding and application of Lazy 8’s.

Brain Gym® Concepts and Background

Exploration of the Centering Dimension – the ability to co-ordinate the top and bottom of the body, further background on the Vestibular System and the its impact on physical activity, copying from a board, visual tracking skills both vertical and horizontal, balance and co-ordination.

Key principles underlying Brain Gym®

An Exploration of the key principles underlying the new Brain Gym®, movements, the neurology and physiology experience of the movements and guidance in working with them in the classroom. In this section there is an opportunity to not only extend current understanding and implementation of movements covered but also work with new movements.

Suggestions and practise to integrate Brain Gym® into the working environment

• Key points to each Movement (not in the books).
• The coping strategies used by learners when they find the Movements challenging.
• Guidance to assist the performance of the movements.
• How to apply Brain Gym® into life and immediate work context – Developing a system to maintain Brain Gym® practise in the learning environment.
